  Ms. Shawan Dortch has been a special education teacher and leader for over fifteen years. During this time, Ms. Shawan Dortch, has demonstrated superior leadership skills as she has provided support to both general and special education peers. This includes developing second-chance programs for males with special needs, co-teaching and differentiated instructional strategies for all students, supporting the understanding of appropriate and mandated accommodations, modifications, and supplemental supports, and disciplining students with IEPs. I have had the pleasure to work with Ms. Dortch in secondary programs and have seen firsthand how she demonstrates a professional approach to the enhancements of programs and services that directly relates to the overall improvement of outcomes for students with disabilities.  Ms. Dortch is a self starter, motivator, as well as an innovator in the field of education. She is able to inspire students, staff, and peers to get the job done. She is skilled in writing detailed, data drive, and meaningful individualized educational plans for students, interrupting special education rules and regulations, and developing district policies and procedures with compliance in mind.
